Understanding Trauma in the Perinatal Period (U-STEPP)
Understanding Trauma in the Perinatal Period (U-STEPP) is a study funded that began in 2024. The initial phase of this study will involve the dissemination of a survey to investigate the prevalence, perception, and impact of traumatic perinatal experiences. This exploratory study will be conducted with interested participants from the Effects of a Prenatal Depression Preventive Intervention on Parenting and Young Children’s Self-Regulation and Functioning (EPIC) study cohort. A small subsample of participants will be selected for qualitative interviews elaborating on their experiences. Data collected from the initial phase will be used to adapt Mothers and Babies to focus on the prevention of Childbirth-related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CB-PTSD). The next steps will be to pilot and then conduct a randomized-controlled trial to test the effectiveness of the adapted intervention.
